Japanese Peaches

One of my favourite foods in life - Japanese Peaches. Super yummy. Super sweet. Super delicious. They cost an arm and a leg but the taste is just out of this world. Always look forward to receiving a carton of them when our Japanese clients come to Singapore.

Mmm.

Vegetarian Breakfast

One of the ways my parents show their love for my brother and I is by buying breakfast for us on saturdays. During the 1st and 15th of the lunar month, my parents would get us vegetarian mee for breakfast. It screws up my diet tremendously (think all carbs and oil) but I still eat it any way because it is their love.

Hope I can get to eat these saturday breakfasts for as long as possible :)

Beef Dao Xiao Mian from Formosa Katong 112

Was at the new Katong 112 mall to watch a movie and we decided to have dinner at Food Republic. Walked past the Formosa (couldn't find the Katong link so put up the west coast link instead) chain of taiwanese food and decided to order the Beef Dao Xiao Mian.

$6 a serving and the serving was huge. Look at the size of the bowl. Well I was happy with the noodles, though it was sliced really thickly. The meat was a little tough but flavourful. Finished all the meat and some noodles cause I was controlling my carbs.

Cheap and good comfort food, will go back again :)

Food photography

I discovered some really interesting books at the bookshop yesterday. food photography and food styling. It is amazing how just a little nip and tuck here and there, shift up and down of angles and we can make food go from blah to wah haha. Am gonna be picking up more of such books to enrich myself. Zero calories! <3

Palek Paneer

One of my favourite indian dishes is the Palak Paneer. Spinach puree with deep fried cheese. Goes really well with naan and basmati rice. Fell in love with this dish when I first tried it in the US. We used to go to this indian buffet place at the suburbs for lunch and I would indulge myself in this dish.

Ever since I got back, I would always order this dish at the Indian eateries that offered it. I think it's north indian cuisine. Love it love it. And now, I managed to find the spice mix from little india's Mustafa Centre. I hope I can recreate the taste that I have always loved straight from my kitchen :)

Sesame Seed Paste and Beancurd Combo

Went to honeymoon dessert at 311 somerset for some dessert. I was attracted tot heir sesame seed paste and beancurd combination thing. Taste was pretty good. Sesame seed paste was smooth and fragrant, beancurd was soft and tasty. The only thing that could have been improved was of course the presentation. It is kinda different from the picture on the menu and the actual dessert itself. Other than that, it was a nice chill out dessert place.

We ordered 2 desserts and in total, spent less than $8 only. Pretty nice place to hang out after a meal and create some sweet endings to the day. Will be back again!

TWG Tea

And so in a bid to pamper myself, I decided to buy a bottle of TWG Sakura tea. Cost me $36 for a small tube. Tea brews really nicely and very fragrant although I felt that the buy was a tad too extravagant. But you know, you gotta pamper yourself once in a while ;)

I love the Jasmine green tea and sakura tea from TWG. It is quite interesting how TWG built the brand up to what it is today. Contrary to what we thought that this might be an extremely old company due to the 1837 branding on it but 1837 is just a number to commemorate the year that tea trade was officiated in Singapore. The company is really pretty new but have garnered immense popularity since it started. Branding and quality of products work hand in hand.

BBQ Honey Pork Bun - Canton Paradise @ JCube

Went to canton paradise @ Jcube as my dad saw a flyer from the company and really liked the canton food concept. We ordered the dimsum menu and there was one item on the list that I really really must talk about the BBQ Honey Pork Bun. It was zomg heavenly. A marriage of savoury and sweetness encrusted in a crispy exterior. The moment you bite through, the bun breaks apart to reveal the wonderful filling. We only ordered 3 but the first bite was unforgettable.

The good news is that you can actually order these things for takeaway at the cashier!!! We ordered 5 to go. However, nothing still beats eating it as it comes out of the oven at the restaurant. You got to try it to believe me ;)

A definite yes and I'll be back for more!!

Sam Loh Hor Fun - Siglap Killiney Kopitiam

Decided to go to Siglap for dinner and everywhere seem so crowded so we settled for Killiney Kopitiam. I ordered the sam loh hor fun and got really really pissed waiting for it. Maybe I might sound unreasonable but I hate having to wait absurd amount of time for my food. Let me share how long I had to wait for this dish.

1) We arrived first, a couple arrived after us.
2) We ordered, then another patron ordered, followed by the couple who ordered.
3) Friend's food + drinks came
4) Patron's food came.
5) Couple's food came
6) New patron ordered and food arrived for them.
7) Friend finishes his dinner
8) Couple finishes food and leaves
9) New patrons tuck into their food and were almost finishing them.

All these happened while I was waiting for this Sam Loh Hor Fun. I was really really pissed. A hungry woman is an angry one.

Eventually the dish was just passe, I would have been happier eating Mcdonald's chicken mcnuggets. Hahaha. Guess I won't be going back there any time soon.

Moral of the story: Don't mess with my food.

Ichiban Boshi @ Nex

Had a $50 Nex voucher so I decided to invite a friend to dine with me at Nex. He was having a craving for Japanese food so we walked around to scout for one. Walked past Ichiban Boshi and quite liked the menu so we went in. We went straight for the kill and ordered a sashimi platter. (~$30) You really pay for what you get, the slices were so fresh and succulent, unlike the buffet ones that you usually get. Although it seemed pricey at first look but the moment we tasted the sashimi, we knew that it was all worth it.

I also ordered my favourite Negitoro sushi. Negitoro is minced tuna - I don't know what about it makes it so special, is it the spring onions or mincing of the tuna that adds this special flavour to the dish. It is my no. 1 favourite Japanese sashimi ever since I first tasted them in Japan.

We ordered a plethora of other stuff and the bill came up to be about $64 (including tax) and we could less off our $50 voucher. I finally understand why people would go to Ichiban Sushi and the lines are always crazy during meal times. We definitely will be back! Awesome Japanese food FTW!
