Caesar Salad @ PS Cafe - Harding Road Branch

Just love PS Cafe. Went there with my BFFs and had a Caesar salad alongside with other things. Just love their salads. Past few times, the poached egg was a fail but today they made it perfectly. Only comment was that their salad size seemed to have downsized quite a bit. Bad economy?

The cafe was still exploding with people at 9.30pm though.

A special mention goes out to their marshmallow brownie. Decadently yummy and has the ability to cheer anyone up on the spot.

Pasta Mania @ West Coast Plaza

Had craving for some comfort italian food and decided to go to Pasta Mania @ West Coast Plaza. Ordered a marinara and baked rice. Baked rice was up to expectations but marinara was a #fail. Yes the spagetti was al dente but there was something about the sauce. The tomato sauce didn't taste like tomato and the ingredients were semi tasteless. Was kinda disappointed. Not sure if it was because that my expectations were too high or something. Oh well. Guess it will be for some time before I go back again.

Waffles at Ben & Jerry's @ Cathay

Had 4 scoops of icecream. Yum yum. $22. Well 6 of us were sharing, so it wasn't all that sinful. The only disappointment was that the waffle wasn't very nice, not crispy at all and just soggy. The last time I ordered some hot fudge brownie from B&Js wasn't too impressive either. Sigh, seems like they better just stick to their icecream. Ended up leaving the waffle on the plate while we finished up the icecream.

Egg in bread

Decided to make an egg in toast breakfast today.
Here's the technique:
1) Use a circular thing (or glass) to punch a hole in the middle of the bread.
2) Heat up some butter, olive oil in a pan.
3) Put bread on top of it.
4) Crack an egg in the hole.
5) Once egg is kinda cooked at the bottom, flip the toast over to cook the other side.
(use a flat spatula and swift movement)
6) Cook for another 30 seconds and tada!

The Corner Place @ Marina Square

Was supposed to meet a friend for lunch but he had a last minute emergency and had to cancel on me. Decided to look for a place to eat at Marina Square (since I was already there) that wasn't too crowded. Walked up to the food court and realised that there was no space and then I chanced up The Corner Place. They were having lunch specials, 8 side dishes and a main for only $9.80 (tax included). Decided to stuff my face with Bibimbap and went in.

Had to wait quite some time for the food to be ready. Not sure why as the restaurant wasn't even 40% full. In any case, it was well worth the wait. Rice, ingredient ratio was well done and I let the rice burn a little in the stone bowl.

The side dishes were very nice, but not free flow unfortunately. Not gonna complain considering that I paid less than $10 for the entire meal. Will be back again!

Lovely Birthday Cake

I'm really amazed by the kind of birthday cakes that kids get nowadays. Very elaborate and pretty. Look at the detail in this Sesame street birthday cake, it makes one really happy just looking at it. This was a birthday cake for my nephew (yes I'm an aunt already geez lol) and the kids all couldn't wait to get their hands on it.

Happy 1st Birthday, Joseph!

Flower of the Sea @ Canele Paragon

Went to Canele for desserts with the girls. We ordered the "Flower of the sea" crepe and I must say it was to die for. Nutella, fleur de sel caramel, caramelized filo, ice cream and cream chantilly. $15 and calories was the most well spent that evening. Amazing amazing. I loved it a lot and didn't really care much about the calories. Sweet savoury crepe that was well matched with the fresh cream and icecream. The filo was very nice and melted in our mouths almost immediately. Even as I am typing this I am still salivating. LOL.

Ok, looks like I will definitely be back!

Fruit salad breakfast

And so I embarked on this new diet where I had to avoid all forms of carbohydrates during breakfast and instead incorporate carbs back into dinner. The recommended breakfast plan was to have a fruit platter for breakfast. This was what I had on the first day of my diet - 1 passion fruit, 1 chinese xiang li (pear) and 1 large slice of papaya.

Unfortunately I couldn't keep up with this diet. What I noticed was that I felt extremely hungry after 2 hours and found myself looking for snacks. Not a sustainable diet for me. Ended up putting on a couple of grams of weight instead. Haha, so in any case, I have since reverted back to my previous diet. I hope I shed the extra weight!

Shepard's Pie Delivery

Went for a party and the host ordered in Shepard's Pie! I always loved this dish even though I know how fattily sinful it can be. The amount of cream, cheese and potatoes to make it taste this good. Well, I had 2 servings because the pie was just so good. So if you want to order in some Shepard's pie, why not try this company: http://www.theshepherdspie.com/

Food for Thought @ 8 Queen Street

Went to Food For Thought @ 8 Queen Street. I've always wanted to try it out but never had the opportunity to do so till now. We arrived at around noon on a saturday morning and it was already pretty filled up by then. Luckily there was still a table available and we were seated after 5 minute wait. The picture above was the table "placemat" (is that the right term to use?)

For 2 people, we ordered a salad, a pasta, a side and a dessert to share. This is one of the techniques that I use so that we can enjoy our food and desserts while ensuring that we do not overeat the calories.

We ordered the Slow Cooked Broccoli with crispy tofu salad ($9) ...

Followed by the Chunky Sausage and Tomato Linguine ($14)

A mushrooms with bacon and onions side ($4)

And a red velvet cake ($10)

Food was lovely and absolutely delectable on the palate. The mushrooms with bacon was awfully good, a wonderful mix of bacon fat and onions. Yes I did feel a tad guilty eating it but I did try to remove the visible bits of fat to make myself feel better haha. The pasta was good, al dente and the sauce was not overwhelming. The real highlight is the red velvet cake.

It was a marriage between layers of cream and cake. The proportions were done just right - good amount of cream and cake. Guilty pleasure. We would have loved to finish the entire thing but we felt very guilty doing so, and left 1/3 of the cake on the plate. Haha.

We spent about $40 for 2 people. It was very nice and I will be back the next time to try out their breakfast/brunch menu. Yum yum!

Club Sandwich @NUSS Kent Ridge

I love club sandwiches and if I visit a cafe at a club (yacht club, golf club, etc club) I would check out their club sandwich. Today, I decided to try the club sandwich at the NUSS Kent Ridge. Not bad at all. Very generous with the bacon and ham. Came with a side of house salad and potato chips instead of fries. All in all, good value at <$9 if I didn't remember wrongly.

Weightloss tip, remove one layer of the bread to cut off 90 calories from this portion ;)

Avocado banana smoothie @ breeks cafe

And so I went to Breeks Cafe at Changi Airport Terminal 2. Having just came back from Batam, I was still craving for their avocado chocolate smoothie thing and was hoping to find something similar in Singapore. Turns out that Breeks actually have this Avocado banana smoothie thing that looked really good so we decided to try. The marriage of bananas and avocado was heavenly. They have this cookie bits in between the layers that added the extra crunch and flavour to the drink. I was very very happy. I think this is good as a meal on its own but I would recommend you to just share it with a friend and enjoy it alongside with other food.

Will definitely be back!
